ACHIEVEMENTS AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Team

In collaboration with Ananya Johri

  • Formulated problem statement and conducted market and user reasearch.

  • Brainstormed solutions and created UX maps and App maps.

  • Designed and created lo-fi wireframes and conducted usability testing.

  • Created design system and component maps for prototyping

  • Integrated Gamification and other design methologies into the MVP.

Problem Statement

The perception of Yoga has shifted from ancient Indian practices, to nothing more than a trendy workout style marketed to a niche group. Traditional Indian yoga practitioners are being left out of the narrative entirely as the face of yoga has changed beyond recognition. Yoga is a lifestyle, and we aim to bring the focus back to that by honoring its original roo

ts, all while making it accessible to anybody and everybody who wants to change their lives.

Yoga seen as a HIIT workout

In our interviews, we discovered that a significant number of yoga practitioners, regardless of their skill level, view yoga primarily as a form of intense or stretching-based exercise. This contrasts sharply with yoga’s traditional roots, which emphasize it as a spiritual practice akin to meditation.

Yoga seen as a HIIT workout

Yoga is a structured practice with routines similar to mastering a dance form, but most apps only offer random stretching. We aim to create a solution that guides users step-by-step, building a strong foundation before progressing to advanced exercises.

Our Solution and Outcome

We wanted to create an outlet where traditional Indian yoga practices and wisdom are accessible to everyone. Through clear visuals, step-by-step practices, and informative texts, users are guided into authentic yoga, making it easy to connect with these age-old teachings.

Core Goals

Tie practices back to ancient tradition

All practices need to be aligned to traditional Indian yoga styles with the help of expert Indian yogis. We are also supplementing the physical practices with a knowledge center for those aiming to obtain a deeper understanding of Yoga.

Bite-Sized, step by step practices for all levels

Practices shoud be designed to fit all experience levels, focusing especially on beginners to enable and encourage them to enter the world of Yoga without any barriers.

Gamified progress + Buddy system

Gamification with tangible progress metrics, as well as a partner will motivate users to stay consistent with their practices

Ideation and User Flow Mapping

I used our core goals to ideate Userflows, outlining the ideal interactions to form the basis of Pranaam. This process revealed key features for the application and highlighted problems we could address through our design.

App Architecture Map

After developing a user flow, I created an app architecture map informed by surveys, interviews, and research. This guided our wireframe designs, incorporating feedback and addressing key issues identified in the earlier user flows.

Wireframing and UX Mapping

After finalizing the architecture and feature list, we proceeded with wireframing. This step helped us visualize the app's flow more clearly, identify screen-to-screen navigation issues, and prepare for preliminary testing.

DESIGN SYSTEM AND UI DESIGN

Once we were satisfied with the wireframes, we advanced to the visual design phase. This was a pivotal step, as it allowed us to craft a polished, engaging interface that would serve as the foundation for handing off to key stakeholders. With this, they could begin developing the curriculum that would bring our app's vision to life.

I created a design system in Figma with all the key components we will use. This sped our visual design process and helped in handing off a working library to our front end devs.

HIGH FIDELITY DESIGNS

Leveraging our component library, we began developing a high-fidelity prototype to test the effectiveness of our gamification features. This allowed us to create a polished, "works-like" prototype that would be ready for inclusion in our pitch deck, ensuring a compelling and visually cohesive presentation.

Next Steps

Execution is the key to any successful product. It’s easy to get caught up in hypothetical issues, but focusing on what users truly need is far more important. Instead of wasting time on made-up problems, channel that energy into continuously improving the product to meet real user demands. Staying grounded in what actually benefits the user ensures you're always moving forward in the right direction. Here is our current next steps

  • Working with Yogis to create the curriculums and follow-along video content before starting user testing.

  • Creating a basic React.JS prototype to set up groundwork for further app development.

  • Refine the prototype according to user testing and feedback.
